How did the name Carella come about?
How did the name Carella come about?
The name "Carella" is in memory of my best friend Janelle who passed away in 2011 and is a combination of our names. Janelle had a real passion for jewellery and design, without her encouragement Carella Jewellers would not have been possible.
My makers mark (stamp) is "CJ" to match the business name, but also acknowledges my maiden name "Johnson" initial.
I am a member of the Gold & Silversmiths Guild of Australia. Guild members’ names and maker's marks are permanently recorded on fine silver touch plates. Members abide by a set of standards of material and their work is identified as genuinely Made in Australia.
I have lived in the Rockhampton Area all my life and have no desire to move, I love it here, my family is here.

What am I passionate about?
What am I passionate about?
I believe Jewellery is a form of Art. Much time & effort is put into handcrafting quality, durable, well thought out jewellery pieces - rather than a rushed piece of lower quality.
I enjoy hand fabricating pieces from scratch and designing unique pieces especially for clients, being given a brief by the client of items they like, their favourite stones/ shapes, birthstone, metal types, initials, favourite flowers, star sign & stone setting preferences etc. Then designing around those details, making the piece as individual as they are.
I love sapphires especially Australian ones. I enjoy making feminine floral filigree pieces with soft pastel stones or pearls. I also enjoy making Gents Jewellery, I think this is an overlooked area of Custom Jewellery. I like using Using a mix of Two tone pieces, inlaying metal of a different colour & setting stones. For Gents chunky Signet Rings I generally do a hand carved wax band (then cast), with the top section being handmade either a bezel / claws or top plate, this gives the piece more strength in my opinion.
Do you have anyone working for you?
I work alone, making the jewellery in my workshop, but sometimes I send work to be set in Brisbane (usually small multi stone settings) as my Setter uses a microscope and the completed piece is much crisper and neater. We both have postal insurance. If it is a piece needing specialist work completed on it, it will be sub contracted out, some Examples are Hand Engraving a Family Crest and Enamelling.
